Center Valley, PA (October 3, 2009) – The DeSales University men's soccer team recorded its third straight win, all via shutout, opening up Freedom Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Delaware Valley College on Saturday afternoon.

DeSales (8-2, 1-0 Freedom) out-shot Delaware Valley (6-3-1, 0-1 Freedom), 30-10, in the game and held a 12-8 edge in corner kicks. The Bulldogs have now recorded three straight shutouts and have not allowed a goal in the last 304:46 minutes, dating back to the second half of the Messiah game. Freshman Adam Franczak (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) was once again tremendous in goal, making five saves, many of which were at point blank range to record his second blanking of the year.

Sophomore Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) wasted no time getting DSU on the scoreboard as he scored his third goal in as many games off assists from both sophomore Matt Murphy (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) and freshman Steve Krause (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern). The game just 2:41 into the game and stood up as 1-0 lead into the half.

DeSales continued to get chances early in the second half but Delaware Valley played some tremendous defense in the box as they turned away three sure goals with three team saves on the goal line at the end of the half and beginning of the second half. DSU got its insurance tally at the 70:42 mark when sophomore Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga (PA)) scored his eight tally of the year when he beat two defenders and the goalie in one-on-ones in the box before sliding a shot inside the left post to provide the final margin.

DeSales, who was ranked seventh in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings will travel to Muhlenberg College on Wednesday, October 7th in its next game in a match-up of regionally ranked teams. The Mules are ranked #6 entering the week. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
