Men’s Soccer Season Closes with 4-2 Loss at Lebanon Valley in ECAC Quarterfinals

Annville, PA (November 11, 2009) – The DeSales University men's soccer team season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to Lebanon Valley College in the quarterfinals of the ECAC South Region Tournament.

The Bulldogs finish the year with a 10-8 overall record, while the Flying Dutchmen improve to 11-7-2 overall and advance to the semifinals of the ECAC Tournament being held on Saturday at the highest remaining seed host's site. LVC had to come from behind in the win but held a 21-10 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks in the win.

DSU struck first when sophomore Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga {PA}) scored his 10th goal of the season, an unassisted tally at the 14:08 mark. The Flying Dutchmen evened the score at the 25:38 mark when Travis Steedle scored off a pass from Justin Hutchinson. The score remained tied at one into halftime.

In the second half, LVC took control as they opened up a 2-1 lead just 6:49 into the second half on a goal from Christopher Hall on another assist from Hutchinson and made it a two-goal game just seven minutes later on a Steedle penalty kick.

The lead swelled to three goals at the 70:05 mark before the Bulldogs finished off the scoring and provided the final margin at the 88:56 mark when junior Sean Baker (Sicklerville, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) scored his second goal of the year off an assist from junior Aaron Gildner (Slatington, PA/Parkland).

Seniors Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) and Keith Barry (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) split time in goal making eight total saves in the loss.
