BOX SCORE

Mahwah, NJ (September 12, 2009) – The DeSales University field hockey played a very good first half, taking a 2-0 lead into the break, but were unable to carry that momentum into the second half, surrendering the two-goal to fall 3-2 at Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game.

DSU (0-4 overall) started the scoring 15:40 into the game when junior Melissa Gilroy (Shohola, PA/Delaware Valley) scored her first goal of the season off an assist from freshman Alyssa Knappenberger (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton).

Just over eight minutes later junior Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) got into the act, scoring her first goal of the year, also off an assist from Knappenberger to give DSU a 2-0 lead. DSU had just three shots in the opening half but that was enough for two goals.

The second half was all Ramapo as they out-shot DSU, 8-1, scoring three times to come all the way back for the win. The Roadrunners tied the game at the 57:02 mark and took the one-goal lead just 1:41 later to earn the win.

Ramapo held a 10-4 edge in shots and had 14 more3 corners than the Bulldogs. Freshman Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) had three saves in the loss.

DSU is scheduled to return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Richard Stockton College beginning at 1:00 pm.
