Center Valley, PA (September 17, 2009) – Sophomore Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga) netted a hat trick and now has five goals in the last two games leading the DeSales University men's soccer team past Baptist Bible College, 7-2, in a non-conference game played on Thursday afternoon.

Balfour scored the first, third and fifth goals of the game for the Bulldogs giving him seven tallies for the season as the team leader with 14 points. His first came at the 2:57 mark on a feed in the box from senior Tony Aufiero (Wall, NJ/Wall). Aufiero made it a 2-0 game just 1:38 later when he took a ball out of mid-air at the 18-yard line and fired a screamer into the left half of the net. It was Aufiero's second goal of the year.

Balfour then made it 3-0 on an assist from freshman Steve Krause (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern) and sophomore Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) capped off the first half scoring with a goal at the 34:32 mark off an assist from junior Jon Devine (Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic).

In the second half Balfour scored unassisted at the 56:49 mark before the Defenders got on the board making the score 4-1 just 1:46 later. Krause added a goal to his assist earlier in the game at the 61:53 mark, as fellow freshman Tyler Nolan (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) earned the assist and after BBC scored once more in the 69th minute, the Bulldogs capped off the scoring when junior Corey Horn (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) re-directed a corner kick feed from freshman Padraic Farrell (Waterford, Ireland/Parkland) off the goalkeeper's hands and into the net to provide the final 7-2 margin.

DSU fired 42 shots in the game to just 11 for Baptist Bible. DSU also owned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Adam Franczak (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) played well in goal making three saves in just 45 minutes of action in the opening half.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Messiah College to take on the #1 ranked team in the nation beginning at 7:00 pm.
