Balfour’s Second-Half Tally Lifts Bulldogs Past Randolph, 2-1

Senior Dustin Sturm tallied an assist on the game-winner on Friday night vs. Randolph College.

Baltimore, MD (September 4, 2009) – Sophomore Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga (PA)) scored his first goal of the season at the 66:35 mark of the second half erasing a 1-1 tie and lifting the DeSales University men's soccer team past Randolph College, 2-1, on Friday evening.

The win moves the Bulldogs into the championship game of the Goucher College Soccer Classic on Saturday night at 8:00 pm. DSU (2-0 overall) will face the host, Goucher College, who defeated Marywood University, 1-0, also on Friday evening.

After a scoreless first half, senior Tony Aufiero (Wall, NJ/Wall) got the scoring started with his first goal of the year on a penalty kick just 4:56 into the second half. RC (1-1 overall) tied the game just under six minutes later when Timothy Songer scored off assists from Nick Hudson and Eddy Ratianarivo at the 55:21 mark.

Balfour's game-winner came 11:14 later and was setup by senior Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May). Senior Keith Barry (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) had another strong outing in goal making eight saves in the win.

DSU out-shot Randolph, 22-16, in the win.
