Box Score Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 12, 2010) – The DeSales University men's soccer team entered play on Tuesday unbeaten in Freedom Conference play and that continued on Tuesday evening under the lights as the Bulldogs got their first conference win with a 2-0 victory over Wilkes University.
Previously DSU had been unbeaten with two ties in the first two conference games of the season and improve to 8-4-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the Freedom. Wilkes falls to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in the Freedom. The Bulldogs out-shot the Colonels 20-17 and had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks. The shutout is the sixth of the season for DeSales.
Senior
Sky Rimmele (Lenhartsville, PA/Moravian Academy) got the scoring started in the 31st minute when he collected a loose ball and fired a shot from 20 yards out for the game's first goal and his second of the season. That score stood into the half.
In the second half, junior
Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga {PA}) gave DSU its insurance goal in the 66th minute off an assist from freshman
Brett Morris (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East). Sophomore
Adam Franczak (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) recorded his third shutout of the year, making three saves.
