Center Valley, PA (October 2, 2010) – Despite playing a man up for 79 minutes the DeSales University men's soccer team was unable to score a goal for the second straight game, settling for a 0-0 double overtime tie with Manhattanville College in the Freedom Conference season opener for both teams.
MVille (4-3-1, 0-0-1 Freedom) had a man sent off with his second yellow card at the 31:03 mark but DeSales (7-3-1, 0-0-1 Freedom) was unable to take advantage over the final 59 minutes and in both overtime periods as the game ended in a deadlocked 0-0 tie. DSU had a 16-12 advantage in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
DSU had two shots saved off the line by the Valiant defense in both the first and second overtimes which served as the Bulldogs' best two scoring chances on the day.
Sophomore
Adam Franczak (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) was again solid in goal, making three saves to record his second shutout of the season. It was DSU's fifth blanking of the year as a team.
Jason Torres was up to the task on the other end, making four saves, and was aided by two saves by his defense after being caught off the line on two different occasions.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, October 6th when they take on local rival Muhlenberg College under the lights at 7:00 pm.
