Second Half Tallies Help DSU Stay Unbeaten in Freedom Conference

Center Valley, PA (October 20, 2010) – The DeSales University men's soccer team scored two goals within 90 seconds of each other in the second half breaking open a scoreless game to earn a 2-0 win over Misericordia University to stay unbeaten in Freedom Conference play this season on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (10-4-2, 3-0-2 Freedom) stay just one point behind Eastern University in the Freedom Conference standings with two games remaining on the conference schedule. Misericordia falls to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in the Freedom with the loss. Shots were even at 12 each, while the Cougars enjoyed an 11-6 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore Adam Franczak (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) recorded his third straight shutout and his fifth on the season with seven more saves in between the pipes. He now has a 0.64 goals against average this season.

With the game still tied at zero heading into the 64th minute senior Sky Rimmele (Lenhartsville, PA/Moravian Academy) fired a shot that was saved but junior Matt Murphy (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) was there for the rebound and he netted his second goal of the season to get DSU on the board.

Just one minute later, junior Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) tallied his 13th marker of the year, dribbling thru the Cougar defense and around the MU goalie to provide the Bulldogs with an insurance goal at 64:37.

The Bulldogs return to action this weekend when they travel to Delaware Valley College for another Freedom Conference game beginning at 2:30 pm.
