Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Neumann

Freshman Haley Petrarca totaled 14 kills and six blocks in the two matches on Saturday at Neumann.

Aston, PA (October 30, 2010) – The DeSales University volleyball team split a tri-match at Neumann University on Saturday afternoon defeating the host Knights, 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-22), before falling to Richard Stockton College, 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-13, 25-22), to finish up the regular season schedule.

The Bulldogs (15-14 overall) hit .202 in the win over Neumann (15-16 overall), but just .158 in the loss to Ospreys (22-7 overall). DSU did have a good night blocking the ball totaling five team blocks in the win over Neumann and six in the win over Stockton.

In the win over Neumann senior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) led the way with nine kills and four blocks. Junior Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) had eight kills and freshman Haley Petrarca (Reading, PA/Wyomissing) also finished with eight kills.

Sophomore Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) finished with six kills, sophomore Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) added 29 assists and nine digs, and sophomore Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine) totaled a team-high 15 digs.

In the loss to the Ospreys, freshman Emilie Baker (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) had a strong match with 12 kills and 19 digs. Fehnel also tallied 12 kills and had 10 digs, Horrigan finished with seven kills and three blocks, Hickey totaled seven kills, and Petrarca added six kills and five blocks. McNulty dished out 34 assists and seven digs and Reichard finished with nine digs.

DeSales returns to action on Tuesday, November 3rd when they travel to Eastern University for the semifinals of the Freedom Conference playoffs. Match time is set for 7:00 pm.
