Immaculata, PA (October 7, 2010) – Senior
Amy Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) scored the game-winning goal just 2:17 into the first overtime lifting the DeSales University field hockey team past Immaculata University, 2-1, in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (5-6 overall) secure a huge win as they head into the stretch run of Freedom Conference games over the next three weeks with some confidence on their sticks. DSU out-shot IU (2-10 overall), 14-7 and held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners in the game.
Senior
Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilminton, DE/Brandywine) got the scoring started and staked DeSales to a 1-0 lead with her sixth goal of the season at the 30:43 mark of the first half.
That score stood into the halftime break and the Mighty Macs were able to tie the game at one, 10:49 into the second half when
Lauren Bigos scored off an assist from
Kathleen Garrity.
Neither team was able to get the game-winner in regulation but just 2:17 into the first overtime Pulcini took a pass from sophomore
Alyssa Knappenberger (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) and scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season giving the Bulldogs the win.
Sophomore
Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) made three saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs.
DSU returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Eastern University for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 11:00 am.
