Bulldogs Drop Two at Widener Tri-Match

Senior Kylie Fehnel had 21 kills, 33 digs, and seven blocks in the two matches on Saturday.

Chester, PA (October 9, 2010) – The DeSales University volleyball team dropped both ends of a tri-match at Widener University on Saturday afternoon falling to the host Pride, 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 27-25), and to PSU-Altoona, 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-16, 15-5).

In the opener, DSU lost by just two points in both the second and third set but were never able to get over the hump hitting just .073 for the match. In the second match the Bulldogs hit .171 but were not able to close out the match after taking a 2-1 lead in set thru the first three.

Senior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) was the team leader with eight kills and added 15 digs and two blocks in the first match. Junior Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) added seven kills, sophomore Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine) finished with 19 digs and sophomore Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) totaled four blocks, three solo. Sophomore Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) finished with 21 assists, three aces, and 16 digs in the loss.

In the second match Fehnel had 13 kills, 18 digs, and five blocks. Horrigan continued her brilliant play in the middle with 14 kills and five blocks and Hickey finished with 10 kills. Reichard added 31 digs, McNulty finished with 43 assists and 18 digs, and freshman Emilie Baker (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) tallied seven kills and 26 digs.

DeSales returns to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to FDU-Florham for a critical Freedom Conference match with the Devils beginning at 7:00 pm.
