St. David's, PA (November 3, 2010) – The DeSales University volleyball was eliminated from the Freedom Conference playoffs on Wednesday evening, falling to #8 Eastern University, 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-17), in the semifinal round.
The Bulldogs fall to 15-15 overall and see their season end unless they are awarded an ECAC South Region Tournament bid, which will be announced sometime on Monday afternoon next week. The Freedom Conference playoff berth was the fourth straight for the Bulldogs.
DeSales hung tough with the nationally ranked Eagles (28-4 overall), especially in the third set when they took a 9-8 lead, but EU out-scored the Bulldogs, 17-8, over the final 25 points to earn the straight set win. DSU hit .178 and had 24 digs, while Eastern recorded 52 kills and hit .457 with 34 digs in the win.
Leading the Bulldogs was senior
Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) with six kills, while sophomore
Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) and freshman
Haley Petrarca (Reading, PA/Wyomissing) each had five kills. Freshman
Emilie Baker (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) added four kills.
Sophomore
Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) had 20 assists and sophomore
Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine) finished with a team-high 10 digs.
