BOX SCORE
Center Valley, PA (September 11, 2010) – The DeSales University field hockey team saw its six game winning streak come to an end with a 3-0 loss to visiting Ramapo College in a non-conference field hockey game on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs fall to 4-1 overall on the season, while the Roadrunners improve to 3-1 overall. The game was played pretty evenly with the exception of the goals scored as RC enjoyed a slim 14-10 edge in shots with each team taking six penalty corners.
RC got on the board at the 9:16 mark when
Samantha Gardner scored unassisted after taking control of a loose ball in the box after DSU's sophomore goaltender,
Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), made two point blank saves.
The back breaking goal came with no time left in the first half after Ramapo earned a penalty corner with just 10 seconds left. After the clock ran out, DSU was unable to clear the ball from the circle and
Amanda Barretta tipped in a pass from
Christine Lafftery giving the Roadrunners some halftime momentum and a two-goal lead.
DSU had chances in each half to get on the scoreboard but all too often its shots went wide or were knocked away by the Ramapo keeper. The Roadrunners added its third goal at the 60:17 mark to put the game out of reach. DelToro had a strong game in goal making nine saves for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, September 16th when they travel to nationally ranked Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
