Young Bulldogs Fall to Local Rival Moravian in Season Opener

Center Valley, PA, (September 1, 2010) – Consisting primarily of freshmen and sophomores the DeSales University volleyball team was unable to win the crucial points late in a set and wound up falling to local rival Moravian College, 3-1 (28-26, 20-25, 22-25, 23-25), in a non-conference match on Wednesday night in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs (0-1 overall) fought hard in the first set, coming from behind to win 28-26, and looked good early in the second set, holding a 13-8 lead and an 18-14 lead but faltered late as the Greyhounds rallied to win 25-20. Moravian (1-0 overall) then used its experience late in the third and fourth sets to pull out close battles for the 3-1 win.

Leading the attack for DeSales was senior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) with 12 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) added seven kills, 29 assists, and 12 digs, while sophomore Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) finished with 31 digs.

Junior Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) added nine kills and sophomore Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) had a match-high five blocks.

The Bulldogs return to action this weekend when they travel to the Johns Hopkins University Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
