Center Valley, PA, (September 1, 2010) – Head coach
Mary Guarino rolled out five freshman in the starting lineup on Wednesday and all five were impressive leading the DeSales University women's soccer team blanked Neumann University, 4-0, in a non-conference game on a hot Wednesday afternoon.
The shots were nearly even, 16-15 edge to DeSales, and the Knights (0-1 overall) had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but DSU dominated the scoreboard with four tallies. Freshman
Brady Walsh (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) got things started at the 19:51 mark when she took a pass from junior
Amanda Fink (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) around midfield and out-ran one NU defender and calmly beat the charging keeper to the left side for her first career goal and a 1-0 Bulldog lead.
Walsh struck again just 1:41 before the half when she beat two defenders inside the box on the right side and beautifully crossed a pass in front of the goalmouth to junior
Haley Vollmer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) who had a wide open net to fire a shot into staking DSU to a 2-0 halftime lead.
The second half was more DeSales as freshman
Meghan Monroy (Torrington, CT/Torrington) scored unassisted at the 64:05 mark, while Walsh and Fink reversed roles with Walsh feeding Fink for the final tally with just 1:45 left on the clock. Junior
Melissa Millili (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was solid in between the pipes making eight saves, including one diving stop on a free kick in the second half, to record the shutout.
The Bulldogs return to action this weekend when they host Immaculata University in a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm. LIVE Stats will be available for those unable to attend on the DeSales web site.
