Dallas, PA (September 29, 2010) – No matter a team's pre-season seed there are never any easy wins when it comes to Freedom Conference action and the DeSales University volleyball team found that out the hard way on Wednesday night falling to Misericordia University, 3-1 (14-25, 28-26, 25-18, 26-24).
DeSales (9-8, 1-2 Freedom) was picked second in the Freedom Conference pre-season poll, while the Cougars (6-4, 2-1 Freedom) were picked sixth to start the season but Misericordia got the upper hand on Wednesday shaking off a dominating performance by the Bulldogs in the first set (25-14) to win each of the next three sets including the second and fourth sets in extra points.
Leading the Bulldogs was senior
Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) with 11 kills, 16 digs, and four blocks. Sophomore
Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) added 10 kills and two blocks and freshman
Haley Petrarca (Reading, PA/Wyomissing) continued her excellent play with 10 kills.
Sophomore
Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) totaled 40 assists and three service aces and fellow sophomore
Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine) finished with 26 digs.
The Bulldogs return to action this weekend when they travel to Lebanon Valley College to take on the Flying Dutchmen and Elizabethtown College.
