DSU Blanks Cedar Crest for Third Straight Shutout Win

Sophomore Alyssa DeQuintal got the scoring started today in the 7-0 rout of Cedar Crest.

Center Valley, PA (September 5, 2010) – The DeSales University women's soccer team scored seven first-half goals and recorded its third straight shutout win to start the season 3-0 for the first time since the 2000 season with a 7-0 win over Cedar Crest College on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs scored early and often in the first half as sophomore Alyssa DeQuintal (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) tallied the first goal of the game and of her season off a centering pass from senior Jena Meaney (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph Hill Academy) just 3:10 into the game.

Freshman Brady Walsh (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) got into the scoring act at the 9:35 mark with her third marker of the year on a shot 20 yards out that went under the goalkeeper's hands. Junior Amanda Fink (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) scored just 1:02 later on a feed from freshman Meghan Monroy (Torrington, CT/Torrington) and Meaney made it 4-0 on a header off a corner kick feed from freshman Ariel Merkt (Easton, PA/Wilson) at the 13:52 mark.

Walsh scored again unassisted from 15 yards out for the Bulldogs fifth tally, senior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) scored on a feed from freshman Christina Quinn (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph Hill) in the 36th minute and Quinn tallied her first goal just 51 seconds later on a pass from fellow freshman Lydia Younger (Macungie, PA/Homeschooled) to finish off the scoring.

Junior Melissa Millili (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and freshman Jen Schmidt (Croydon, PA/Nazareth) did not need to make a save to earn a combined shutout. DSU out-shot CCC, 30-2, and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, September 7th when they host PSU-Berks in another non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
