Annville, PA (September 7, 2010) – The only other time the DeSales University men's soccer team started a season 4-0 was in 1988 when they won its first nine games but the Bulldogs have done just that in 2010 after they blanked Lebanon Valley College, 4-0, on the road on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

DeSales (4-0 overall) has looked impressive to start the season averaging 3.5 goals per game and allowing just one marker on the defensive side of the ball thru the first four games. Lebanon Valley (2-1 overall) falls for the first time this season after opening the year with two wins at the Goucher College Tournament.

Junior Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) continued his assault on opposing teams' goal cages with his fifth goal of the year just 5:46 into the game, staking DSU to a 1-0 lead. Junior Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga {PA}) was awarded an assist on the play.

Freshman Josh Himes (Boyertown, PA/Oley Valley) then added a big goal just before the half, 38 seconds before the mid-way break on a header off a pass from sophomore Tyler Nolan (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) as the Bulldogs enjoyed a two-goal cushion to start the second half.

In the second half DeSales had just five shots but it scored on two of those shots including Long's second marker on a feed from senior Aaron Gildner (Slatington, PA/Parkland) at the 51:55 mark. Sophomore Steve Krause (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern) added the exclamation point at the 61:18 mark on another assist from Balfour, Krause' second goal of the season.

Sophomore Adam Franczak (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) combined yet again with freshman Mike Thompson (Glenmoore, PA/Bishop Shanahan) to record the shutout with Franczak making all eight saves needed in the game. Franczak now has a 0.28 goals against average thru the first four games.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday when they take on Richard Stockton College in the opening game of the Stockton Tournament on Friday and Saturday beginning at 5:30 pm.
