Center Valley, PA (October 11, 2011) – Five different players scored goals leading the DeSales University men's soccer team to its eighth straight win, 5-1, over Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (11-2-1) have now won eight straight games, one shy of tying the all-time mark of nine straight set during the 1988 season.  DSU is also unbeaten in 12 straight games against Freedom Conference teams including both the regular season and playoffs and have won 10 straight against Freedom Conference opponents.

DSU got the scoring started in the 31st minute when junior Tyler Nolan blasted home a corner kick feed in the box by senior Jonathan Balfour after the ball had skidded past the a Wilkes defender and another DSU attacker near the back post.

Just 1:05 later senior Derek Long had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper who charged out to challenge Long who side-stepped him with the ball but was tripped on the play and a penalty kick was awarded.  Balfour took the PK and netted his eight tally of the year to make it 2-0.

Wilkes got within a marker at the 42:09 mark just before halftime when Ed Zulkoski threaded a perfect pass into the box for Luke Dombert who just barely beat a DeSales defender and the goalkeeper to the ball, sliding a flick just over the keeper and into the net.

Junior Steve Krause regained the two goal lead 6:28 into the second half with his fourth goal of the year.  Senior Jon Mill sent a free kick into the box from just inside the midfield stripe where Long headed to the far post and Krause was there to just sneak it inside the post.

Sophomore Brett Morris netted his first career goal at the 55:47 mark, taking a Nolan long throw-in and blasting a shot out of mid-air past a defenseless keeper and fellow sophomore Michael Ruh also scored his first career goal at the 71:43 to provide the final tally.  After another long throw-in from Nolan was flicked onto the back post by Long, Ruh was there to push the bouncing ball into the net.

Freshman Colin Sulpizio made just one save to earn the win, while sophomore Mike Thompson played the last 11:33 in the net, making two saves.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, October 15th when they host Delaware Valley College in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
