Bulldogs Clinch Home Playoff Match; Roll Past Delaware Valley, 3-0

Center Valley, PA (October 18, 2011) – Three different players had 10 kills leading the DeSales University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-13) win over Delaware Valley College in Freedom Conference action clinching no worse than the #2 seed in the Freedom Conference Playoffs and thus clinching at least one home playoff match.

The Bulldogs (25-3, 6-0 Freedom) have now won six straight giving them win streaks of 14 and six (current) this season.  It is the fourth most wins in a season also done three other times in 1990, 1991, and 1996.  The Freedom Conference playoff berth marks the ninth time overall and the fifth straight trip DSU has made to the Freedom post-season.

The win sets up a big match with Eastern University next week in which the winner will earn the #1 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs.  DSU travels to EU on Wednesday evening.  The Eagles are currently 23-1 overall and ranked #5 in the country.

On Tuesday night senior Lauren Hickey was honored before the match as the lone senior and she finished as one of the three Bulldogs with a team-high 10 kills and added two blocks.  Junior Paige Horrigan and sophomore Haley Petrarca also had 10 kills with Horrigan totaling three blocks and hitting .588 for the match.

Junior Justine McNulty continued her strong play with 37 assists, 13 digs, and two blocks, while junior Eden Reichard had 11 digs.  Sophomore Madeline Svrcek totaled three aces and seven digs, freshman Amanda Wallitsch had two aces and six digs, sophomore Emilie Baker finished with five kills, six assists, 10 digs, and two blocks, and freshman Chrissy Banos had six kills, two aces, and a team-high four blocks in the win.

DSU returns to action on Thursday, October 20th when they travel cross-town to face local rival Moravian College beginning at 7:00 pm.
