Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 22, 2011) – The DeSales University men's soccer team had 2-1 lead thru 80 minutes and then things got crazy as four goals were scored in a span of 5:58, with King's College tallying three of them, in a 4-3 upset of the #16 Bulldogs in Freedom Conference action on Saturday evening.

The loss leaves DeSales (13-3-1, 5-1 Freedom) now likely needing a win in its Freedom Conference finale vs. FDU-Florham next Saturday at home to clinch the top seed and home field advantage for the Freedom Conference playoffs.

The loss also snaps a host of streaks including the first loss to King's College since the 2001 season (a span of 10 games, 9-0-1), the first loss to a Freedom Conference team since the last game of the 2009 season which spanned 14-games, and the first loss in 11-games overall, snapping a program best 10-game winning streak.

DSU, who had allowed just eight goals in its first nine games of its 10-game win streak, have now allowed six goals in its last two games.

The scoring started just 1:09 into the game when KC's (10-3-2, 4-2 Freedom) Kevin Burke scored off a feed from Alex Martino.  DSU wasted no time answering that goal as senior Derek Long headed home a long throw from junior Tyler Nolan just 3:18 later.

That score stood into the half as each team re-grouped for the second half of play.

The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute when senior Jon Mill scored unassisted on blast after a scramble in front of the Monarchs net and that goal appeared to eventually be the game-winner until play reached the 81st minute.

At 80:36 King's tied the game at two on a goal from Kevin Buchanan and took a 3-2 lead exactly two minutes later on an unassisted tally from Niall Croke.

DSU re-tied it at three just 2:40 later when Nolan headed in a free kick from Mill but the craziness wasn't over as the Monarchs scored 1:18 later to take a 4-3 lead and the Bulldogs were unable to get another tying tally before the final horn.

DeSales remains in first place entering the final week of the season with five wins and 15 points but Manhattanville College is lurking behind the Bulldogs with four wins and 12 points and road games against Delaware Valley College and King's College this week.  Two wins by the Valiants mean the Bulldogs would need a win on Saturday vs. FDU-Florham to earn that top seed since DSU owns the tiebreaker over Manhattanville having defeated them earlier in the season.

DSU does have a chance to re-gain its momentum prior to Saturday as they take to the road once again, traveling to Widener University for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
