Volleyball Settles for #2 Seed with 3-0 Loss at Eastern

Junior Paige Horrigan had six kills and a match-high four blocks in the loss at Eastern.
St. David's, PA (October 26, 2011) – The DeSales University volleyball team fell to #4 Eastern University, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-10), on Wednesday evening concluding DSU's Freedom Conference regular season as the Bulldogs finish in second place in the standings.

DSU (25-5, 6-1 Freedom) finish in second place means the Bulldogs will be the #2 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs next week and will host a semifinal game vs. the #3 seed, FDU-Florham, at 7:00 pm in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs played really well in the first set and after falling behind 7-1, kept pace with the Eagles the rest of the way before falling 25-19.  DSU hit .225 in the first set, while Eastern had 18 kills and a .280 hitting percentage in the opening set to earn the win.

In the second and third set, DSU struggled to keep the ball in play committing 12 hitting errors as compared to just three in the first set, giving Eastern too many free points.

Junior Paige Horrigan finished with six kills and a .386 hitting percentage, while senior Lauren Hickey added four kills and no errors on the night.  Sophomore Haley Petrarca totaled six kills.  Horrigan also added a team-best four blocks in the loss.

Junior Justine McNulty had 19 assists and 10 digs, junior Eden Reichard finished with 14 digs, and sophomore Emilie Baker totaled 16 digs for the Bulldogs.

DSU will return to action on Saturday, October 29th when they host Neumann University (10 AM) and Richard Stockton College (2 PM) in a tri-match in Billera Hall.
