Center Valley, PA (October 29, 2011) – The DeSales University volleyball team won its 26th match of the year, 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-19), over Neumann University in the first match of a scheduled tri-match with Richard Stockton College on Saturday morning in Billera Hall.
The final two matches were eventually cancelled as the power went out in Billera Hall three times during the second match between Neumann and Stockton with the final outage coming just as the third set was beginning with RSC leading, 2-0. That time the power did not return until after three o'clock well after all three teams were sent home, cancelling the final two matches of the tri-match.
The win is #26 for the Bulldogs who improve to 26-5 overall. That matches the win total in 1992, is one shy of the win total in 1993, and three shy of tying the all-time mark set in 1995. DSU hit .231 for the match and continued its excellent blocking with nine team blocks.
Leading the way was senior
Lauren Hickey with a match-high 10 kills and a .308 hitting percentage. Junior
Paige Horrigan added seven kills and hit .500, while adding three blocks and freshman
Chrissy Banos continued to improve recording seven kills with a .500 hitting percentage and five blocks.
Sophomore
Haley Petrarca totaled six kills and one block, junior
Justine McNulty finished with four kills, 30 assists, two aces, and 13 digs, and junior
Eden Reichard had a team-high 17 digs.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they host FDU-Florham in the semifinals of the Freedom Conference playoffs with match time set at 7:00 pm.
