BOX SCORE
St. David's, PA (October 8, 2011) – Winning on the road is never easy but the DeSales University men's soccer team has done so in back-to-back weekends winning its seventh straight game, 3-1, over Eastern University in a Freedom Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs are now 10-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Freedom, both wins coming on the road. The 10 wins mark the 10th time head coach
George Crampton has guided DeSales to 10+ wins in his 13+ year career. Eastern falls to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom with the loss.
Despite being out-shot, DeSales once again made the most of its chances led by senior
Derek Long. Long got the Bulldogs on the board, 7:08 into the game, dribbling around the EU keeper to score his 10th tally of the year.
DSU got unconventional goal in the 36th minute to make it 2-0 when junior
Tyler Nolan sent a free kick from just inside the midfield line towards the penalty spot in the box and the EU keeper charged trying to fist the ball away from trouble but the ball glanced off his fist, rather than out and bounced into the net for Nolan's second goal of the season.
That score stood into the half where Long made it a three goal game, 5:38 into the second half, taking a pass from senior
Jonathan Balfour and chipping it over the goalkeeper into the net.
Eastern got back within two goals in the 60th minute on a PK by Alex Schweitzer but the DSU defense and freshman
Colin Sulpizio did the rest as Sulpizio made nine saves to preserve the two-goal lead.
DeSales returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Wilkes University in another important Freedom Conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
