Derek Long broke thru offensively with two goals leading the DeSales University men's soccer team past Washington & Lee University, 4-1, in the second game of the Elizabethtown College Tournament on Sunday morning at Hempfield Athletic Complex.
The Bulldogs improve to 2-1-1 overall with the win, one day after settling for a 2-2 double overtime tie with Eastern Mennonite University in the first game of the tournament.
Long, who led the Bulldogs in scoring last season with 16 goals, was scoreless entering the game but broke thru with two tallies including the first marker of the game when he took a cross from senior
Jonathan Balfour at the 15:05 mark of the first half.

Sky Rimmele made it 2-0, scoring unassisted in the 29th minute, before W&L (1-2 overall) got within one goal at 35:03 on an unassisted tally from
Colin Hagenbarth. Senior
Matt Murphy regained the two-goal lead 5:47 before the half when he knocked home a pass in front by sophomore
Michael Ruh.
Long tallied his second in the 61st minute taking a long pass from sophomore goalie
Mike Thompson, splitting two defenders and scoring in the lower right corner to provide some second-half insurance.
Thompson made five saves in between the pipes.
DeSales returns to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Cabrini College for a non-conference contest beginning at 4:00 pm.
