Radnor, PA (September 14, 2011) – Senior Derek Long scored twice for the second straight game and sophomore Mike Thompson saved a potential game-tying penalty kick in the 78th minute lifting the DeSales University men's soccer team past Cabrini College, 2-1, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.

Long, who broke a scoreless streak in DSU's last game with two goals, continued where he left off with two more tallies with the first coming at 21:43 on an assist from sophomore Josh Himes who headed the ball to Long who then flicked it past the Cavalier (3-3) goalkeeper and into the empty net.

The score remained 1-0 into the half before Long got the insurance goal in the 53rd minute, heading in a long throw-in from junior Tyler Nolan to make it 2-0.

Cabrini pulled within one at 70:10 when Jim Mattock scored off a nice feed from Matt Sabin and the Cavaliers had a chance to tie the game in the 78th minute a penalty kick was awarded but Thompson came up big with the save to preserve the lead and ultimately the win.

Cabrini held a 12-9 edge in shots and a 12-4 advantage in corner kicks for the game.  Thompson had six saves for the Bulldogs in between the pipes.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday when travel to nationally ranked Messiah College for another non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
