Volleyball Takes Neumann University Tournament Title

The Bulldogs have won seven straight including four this weekend to take home the Neumann University Tournament Title.

Aston, PA (September 17, 2011) – The DeSales University volleyball team ran its win streak to seven straight winning all four matches at the Neumann University Tournament including two wins on Saturday over Widener University and host Neumann University to take the tournament title.

Juniors Eden Reichard and Justine McNulty were each named to the All-Tournament Team for the Bulldogs.

On Saturday, DeSales put itself into the Tournament Championship match vs. Neumann University with a hard-fought come-from-behind 3-2 (22-25, 28-30, 25-16, 25-21, 16-14) win over Widener University in the first match of the day.  DSU then followed that win with a 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-12, 26-24) win over the host Knights.

In the Widener match, McNulty tied the single-match record for assists with 64, while also totaling six kills and 19 digs.  Senior Lauren Hickey had 18 kills and two blocks, sophomore Haley Petrarca had 15 kills, junior Paige Horrigan totaled 15 kills and three blocks, hitting .359 for the match.

Freshman Julie Blessing added 13 kills and three blocks and sophomore Emilie Baker finished with eight kills and 28 digs.  On defense Reichard led the way with 31 digs, sophomore Madeline Svrcek added 20 digs, and freshman Amanda Wallitsch finished with four aces and 17 digs.

In the Neumann match, Horrigan led the charge with 13 kills, seven blocks, and a .364 hitting percentage.  Petrarca totaled 12 kills and four blocks, Blessing added nine kills, and Hickey five kills.  McNulty finished with eight kills, 37 assists, three aces, and 14 digs.

Reichard picked up 22 digs and had two aces, Svrcek, two aces and 10 digs, and Baker tallied 13 digs and two blocks.

The Bulldogs will put their seven-match win streak on the line on Wednesday evening when they travel to Manhattanville College for a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
