Allentown, PA (September 22, 2011) – Freshman
Alison Malatesta had one goal and two assists leading the DeSales University field hockey team past Cedar Crest College, 4-1, for the Bulldogs second straight win in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.
The Falcons (0-4) started the game off strong, opening up a 1-0 lead just 5:34 into the game on a marker from
Kara Malysza and assisted by
Brittany Hartman.
Following the goal, DeSales (3-4) took control, eventually tying the game at one at the 16:19 mark when junior
Amber Collins sent a pass from outside the circle thru the Falcon defense where Malatesta was waiting to knock home the pass for her third goal of the season.
The Bulldogs continued to dominate in the second half, pulling ahead for good at the 41:40 mark when junior
Alyssa Knappenberger got a pass at the top of the circle from Malatesta, took two dribbles, and fired a shot just to the right of the Falcon keeper and into the cage for a 2-1 DSU lead.
Sophomore
Sara Barker struck next just 1:37 later making it 3-1. Freshman
Alyssa Malatesta started this play, dribbling into the circle on the right side and sending a crossing pass in front where her twin sister Alison was to re-direct it to Barker who one-timed it past the CCC goalkeeper for her first career goal.
The final margin was posted with four second left when DSU was awarded a penalty stroke and Knappenberger buried the attempt in the upper right corner for her second goal of the game. Junior
Victoria DelToro made four saves in the cage for DeSales to earn the win.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday when they put its two-game winning streak on the line in the first Freedom Conference game of the season against Misericordia University beginning at Noon.
