DSU Runs Win Streak to 10 with Two Wins on Day One at Carnegie Mellon

Freshman Amanda Wallitsch totaled five aces and 23 digs in the two wins on Friday at Carnegie Mellon.

Pittsburgh, PA (September 23, 2011) – The DeSales University volleyball team ran its win streak to 10-straight matches with two more wins on Friday afternoon over Bridgewater College (VA) and PSU-Behrend on day one of the Carnegie Mellon University Tournament this weekend.

The Bulldogs (15-2) opened with a 3-1 win over Bridgewater by scores of 25-13, 18-25, 15-13, 25-17 and finished with a 3-0 win over PSU-Behrend, 25-12, 25-12, 25-21.

In the win over Bridgewater senior Lauren Hickey led the way with 12 kills, freshman Julie Blessing had eight kills, and junior Paige Horrigan finished with 8 kills and seven blocks.  Sophomore Madeline Svrcek finished with seven kills, two aces, and 19 digs.

Junior Justine McNulty totaled 33 assists and 13 digs, junior Eden Reichard had 21 digs, and sophomore Emilie Baker added 15 digs.

In the win over PSU-Behrend, Svrcek continued her solid play with 10 kills and 11 digs.  Blessing added seven kills and two blocks, Horrigan had six kills and three blocks, McNulty dished out 29 assists and had 14 digs, and Reichard totaled 11 digs.  Freshman Amanda Wallitsch and Baker combined for four aces and 26 digs as well in the win.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow when they take on Defiance College and host Carnegie Mellon University.
