BOX SCORE
Center Valley, PA (September 24, 2011) – Freshman
Rachel Wysocky scored her second goal of the season 2:17 into the first overtime sparking a 1-0 Freedom Conference win over Misericordia University for the DeSales University field hockey team on homecoming Saturday.
The Bulldogs (4-4, 1-0 Freedom) win their third straight game and open the Freedom Conference season with a very important OT win. The win also moves DSU to a perfect 3-0 at home this season.
After a very evenly played first half, Misericordia looked fresher in the second half, out-shooting DeSales, 11-1, but the Bulldogs never quit and junior
Victoria DelToro came up with a few big saves, six total for the game, to keep the game scoreless heading into overtime.
After an initial rush by the Cougars (1-6, 0-1 Freedom), DeSales gained possession and freshman
Alyssa Malatesta took a shot from the left side of the circle that was saved by the MU keeper out to the right side where Wysocky was waiting, pushing the ball back towards the cage and just past the Cougar goalkeeper to win the game and start the Bulldogs celebration on the field.
Misericordia finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots and a 16-4 edge in penalty corners, but the Bulldogs had the most important edge on the scoreboard in the win.
DeSales returns to action on Wednesday when they put that unblemished home record on the line in a non-conference game vs. Arcadia University beginning at 4:00 pm.
