Bulldogs Win 12th Straight; Sweep All Four Matches at Carnegie Mellon

Junior Justine McNulty has been playing terrifically as the setter for the Bulldogs, totaling 66 assists in DSU's two wins on Saturday.

Pittsburgh, PA (September 24, 2011) – The DeSales University volleyball team continued its torrid play, winning two more matches on Saturday to sweep its four matches at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational this weekend and run its winning streak up to 12-straight matches, just three shy of tying the all-time record for consecutive wins.

The Bulldogs (17-2) defeated Defiance College, 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-19) and topped host Carnegie Mellon University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-17) to finish 4-0 for the weekend.

In the win over Defiance, senior Lauren Hickey led the way with 13 kills and junior Paige Horrigan had nine kills, a .563 hitting percentage and three blocks.  Freshman Julie Blessing finished with eight kills and two blocks and sophomore Madeline Svrcek totaled seven kills and 19 digs.

Junior Justine McNulty continued to run a near perfect, balanced offense and finished with four kills and 33 assists, while junior Eden Reichard totaled 25 digs.  Sophomore Emilie Baker contributed two aces and 16 digs and freshman Amanda Wallitsch had 13 digs in the win over Defiance.

In the Carnegie Mellon win, sophomore Haley Petrarca returned from an ankle injury to put down nine kills and Hickey added six kills.  Baker had five kills two aces, 12 digs, and two blocks, Horrigan had seven more kills and four blocks, and Blessing finished with seven kills, two aces, and two blocks.  McNulty totaled six kills, 33 assists, and 10 digs, Reichard led with 14 digs, and Wallitsch finished with 10 digs in the win.

DeSales gets a few days of rest after a long weekend and returns to action on Wednesday when they host Misericordia University in a very important Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm in Billera Hall.
