Center Valley, PA (October 24, 2012) – Senior
Paige Horrigan led the way with eight kills and four blocks but the DeSales University volleyball team fell to #21 Eastern University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-21), in a battle of the last two unbeaten teams in the Freedom Conference on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
The loss drops DSU to the #2 seed in next week's Freedom Conference playoffs where they will host the third seed, Wilkes University, in the semifinals. It marks the sixth straight season the Bulldogs have advanced to the Freedom Conference playoffs. The semifinal match will be on Halloween night, Wednesday, November 31st beginning at 7:00 pm in Billera Hall.
DSU hung tough with the Eagles (23-5, 7-0 Freedom) on Wednesday night. Horrigan hit .333 for the match and moved within two solo blocks of becoming just the fifth player in school-history to record 100+ solo blocks in a career. Senior teammate
Eden Reichard added 17 digs in the loss and became the second player in school-history with 1,900+ digs in a career.
Sophomore
Amanda Wallitsch played well with a match-high 19 digs, sophomore
Julie Blessing had five kills, and junior
Emilie Baker added six kills and 18 digs. Sophomore
Brooke Horrigan finished with 20 assists and 12 digs in the loss.
The Bulldogs return to action this Sunday when they finish up their regular season schedule with a tri-match at Richard Stockton College taking on the Ospreys and Neumann University.
