Madison, NJ (October 27, 2012) – Needing just a win or a tie on the road at FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon to clinch a Freedom Conference playoff berth, the DeSales University men's soccer team dug itself a 3-0 first-half hole and were unable to complete a second-half comeback in a 4-2 loss to the Devils.

FDU (9-10, 4-3 Freedom) scored in the 10th, 17th, and 35th minute to open up a 3-0 first-half lead on the Bulldogs (9-6-3, 3-3-1 Freedom) who had just three shots as compared to 13 for FDU in the opening half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs pushed its offense up and began to make some plays.  Freshman Darby Alafoginis scored at 62:08 on an assist from Brandon Moninghoff to get DSU on the board and junior Matt Metzler got DeSales within a goal at 72:36 on an assist from senior Zach Davis.

The Bulldogs had the tying goal cleared off the line later in the game but were unable to tie the game up as FDU added its fourth goal with 27 seconds left and the DSU defense pushed up the field to provide the final margin.

Sophomore Colin Sulpizio made six saves in the loss.
