DSU Drops Both Ends of MAC Crossover at Messiah

Senior Eden Reichard went over 1,800 digs for her career in the two matches at Messiah College on Saturday.

Grantham, PA (October 6, 2012) – The DeSales University volleyball team fell just short in a comeback vs. Widener University to start the day falling 3-2 and lost to host Messiah College in four sets, 3-1, to drop both ends of the MAC Crossover matches on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (10-15) fought back from an 0-2 deficit vs. Widener to win sets three and four but fell behind 5-1 early in the fifth set before losing 15-6 to drop the match.  In the Messiah match, DSU took game two, 27-25, to tie it at one set each but the Falcons won sets three and four in hard fought fashion, 25-22 and 25-20, to earn the win.

Leading the way vs. Widener was senior Paige Horrigan and sophomore Julie Blessing with 13 kills each and four blocks from Blessing and five blocks from Horrigan.  Senior Eden Reichard added seven kills and 30 digs, sophomore Amanda Wallitsch had 28 digs, sophomore Brooke Horrigan had 44 assists, and junior Emilie Baker contributed 32 digs in the loss.

In the Messiah match, Reichard finished with 16 kills and 20 digs, Horrigan had seven kills and four blocks, Blessing had seven kills and four blocks, Wallitsch finished with 20 digs, and B. Horrigan finished with 35 assists.

DSU returns to action on Wednesday evening when its travels to FDU-Florham for an important Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
