Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 9, 2012) – A scoreless game at the half was broken open in the second half as the DeSales University men's soccer team scored three times to earn a 3-1 win over Wilkes University, snapping a two-game losing skid on Tuesday afternoon.

After both teams had seven shots but neither could find the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes, freshman Stevie Castellani opened the scoring 4:50 into the second half taking advantage of a Wilkes mistake as the Colonel keeper came out of the box to clear a ball but the clear by a defender went right to Castellani, who got it under control and sent a high shot from 45 yards out over the back pedaling Colonel keeper and into the net for his third goal of the year and a 1-0 Bulldog lead.

The lead grew to two goals in the 71st minute when seniors Padraic Farrell and Tyler Nolan hooked up when Nolan headed home a picture perfect corner kick feed at 70:20.

Wilkes showed no quit, pulling within one tally at 76:14 on a goal from Joe Brennan, but the Bulldogs put the game away at 85:46 when senior Zach Davis headed in a long throw from Nolan for his first goal of the season.

Sophomore Colin Sulpizio made four saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs.

DSU returns to action on Saturday when they host Misericordia University in another important Freedom Conference battle beginning at 3:00 pm.
