St. David's, PA (November 4, 2012) – The DeSales University volleyball team had upset on its mind on Sunday afternoon but #21 Eastern University proved to be too much as the Bulldogs upset bid fell short in a 3-0 loss (25-17, 25-22, 25-12) loss to the Eagles in the Freedom Conference Championship game.

After dropping the first set, DSU (13-18) looked like it was going to even the match up at one set a piece and hand the Eagles its first loss in a set to a Freedom Conference team since EU joined the conference five years ago, but a 13-2 rally by Eastern a 25-22 win in set #2 and the Eagles dominated in set #3 to earn the win.

DeSales was the aggressor in most of the second set, taking a 20-12 lead after an 11-4 run forcing Eastern to use its second timeout.  The Bulldogs still led 21-14 before the momentum shifted and the Eagles closed the match scoring 11 of the 12 points to take a 2-0 lead and ultimately the match.

Junior Macy Farrell was outstanding for the Bulldogs in the loss, finishing with a team-high seven kills.  Senior Paige Horrigan had just two kills but made her presence felt at the net with five blocks including three solo blocks as she finishes her career with 101 career solo blocks becoming just the fifth player in school-history with 100+ solo blocks.

Sophomore Amanda Wallitsch had a team-high eight digs and senior Eden Reichard finished with four kills and seven digs.
