Salisbury, MD (September 14, 2012) – The DeSales University volleyball team took the first two sets from Gallaudet University but couldn't hold on falling in five, 3-2, and lost in straight sets to Baldwin-Wallace College on the first day of the Sea Gull Classic at Salisbury University on Friday evening.
The Bulldogs took the first two sets with hard fought 26-24 wins in each set, but dropped the next two, 25-15 and 25-14, before narrowly falling, 15-13, in the fifth and deciding set. Senior
Paige Horrigan had 13 kills and five blocks, while sophomore
Julie Blessing totaled 11 kills and two blocks.
Senior
Eden Reichard finished with seven kills, three blocks, and 25 digs and junior
Macy Farrell had six kills. Sophomore
Amanda Wallitsch finished with 23 digs, sophomore
Nicole Morin added 14 digs, and sophomore
Brooke Horrigan dished out 37 assists.
In the loss to Baldwin-Wallace, Horrigan and Reichard each totaled six kills, while Horrigan had two blocks, and Reichard added two aces and 16 digs. B. Horrigan had 20 assists and Morin, Wallitsch, and junior
Emilie Baker each had 10 digs.
DSU returns to the court tomorrow when they take on Centenary College and the host Salisbury University.
