Reading, PA (September 22, 2012) – In a game delayed by a little more than 30 minutes for rain and lightning and played thru fog in the second overtime the DeSales University men's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit at the half to earn a 3-3 tie at Alvernia University on Saturday afternoon.
DSU (5-2-2) never led but overcame a 1-0 deficit and a 3-1 deficit to earn the tie. AU (5-1-3) opened the scoring in the 17th minute but the Bulldogs tied the score at one in the 36th minute when senior
Jonathan Balfour scored unassisted, his seventh tally of the season.
Alvernia dominated the final 10 minutes of the half, scoring twice, to take its 3-1 halftime lead and finishing the opening 45 minutes with an 11-6 advantage in shots.
The second-half was all Bulldogs however as DSU turned the tides, out-shooting the Crusaders, 11-1, in the final 45 minutes and scoring twice to earn the tie.
Senior
Steve Krause made it a one-goal game just 4:27 into the second-half when he knocked in a crossing pass from Balfour that bounced off a defender and Krause was there to knock it in.
The tying goal came at 65:05 when senior
Padraic Farrell scored off a crossing pass from freshman
Dave Werner, who earned his first career point on the play.
Sophomore
Colin Sulpizio made four saves in the win.
DSU is now unbeaten in three straight and returns to action on Wednesday when they return home to host Albright College beginning at 4:00 pm.
