Bulldogs Drop Two on Day Two at Bear Classic

Sr. Eden Reichard earned All-Tournament Team honors over the weekend at the Bear Classic hosted by the US Coast Guard Academy.

New London, CT (September 22, 2012) – Despite playing well the DeSales University volleyball team was unable to pull out a win on day two of the Bear Classic hosted by the US Coast Guard, falling to Middlebury College and host Coast Guard, by identical 3-1 scores.

In the first match of the day, DSU fell to Middlebury, 3-1 (25-16, 25-13, 24-26, 25-17), before falling to the host US Coast Guard Academy, 3-1 (25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 25-16).

In the opening match senior Eden Reichard, who earned All-Tournament team honors, led the way with nine kills, 16 digs, and two blocks.  Sophomore Julie Blessing added nine kills and five blocks, senior Paige Horrigan had eight kills and four blocks, and junior Macy Farrell finished with six kills and four blocks.

Sophomore Brooke Horrigan totaled 34 assists, sophomore Amanda Wallitsch finished with 25 digs and two aces, and junior Emilie Baker had 12 digs.

In the second match freshman Kait Anderson had 11 kills and two blocks.  Reichard added nine kills and 12 digs, P. Horrigan finished with eight kills and three blocks, and Blessing totaled seven kills.  B. Horrigan added 35 assists and 16 digs and Wallitsch and sophomore Nicole Morin each had 14 digs.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Misericordia University for a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
