Dallas, PA (September 26, 2012) – Senior
Paige Horrigan broke the career and 3-set match record for blocks assists on Wednesday evening in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-10) win over Misericordia University to help the Bulldogs stay unbeaten in Freedom Conference play at the Anderson Center.
Horrigan had nine blocks assists breaking the previous record of eight set by
Christa Hannis and
Sally Whittaker in 1995. The nine block assists on Wednesday night give her 53 for the season and 247 for her career breaking Hannis' mark of 244 which had stood since 1996.
In addition, P. Horrigan had 12 kills and no errors on 22 attempts for a .545 hitting percentage to lead DeSales (8-11, 3-0 Freedom) in the win. Fellow senior
Eden Reichard also played well with 12 kills and just one error for a .324 hitting percentage and sophomore
Julie Blessing had six kills and a .400 hitting percentage to go along with four blocks in the win.
Sophomore
Brooke Horrigan had 30 assists and 10 digs, while sophomore
Amanda Walltisch (16 digs) and junior
Emilie Baker (14 digs) led the way on defense in the win over the Cougars.
DSU returns to action this weekend when they take on Widener University and St. Mary's College (MD) at Widener on Saturday afternoon.
