Bulldogs Split Two Matches at Widener Tri-Match

Chester, PA (September 29, 2012) – The DeSales University volleyball team split its two matches on Saturday morning at Widener University, defeating the Pride, 3-1, before falling to St. Mary's College (MD), 3-0.

In its first match of the day, DSU shook off a first set loss (25-23) to earn wins in each of the next three sets, 25-22, 25-12, 25-21.  Senior Paige Horrigan led the way with 17 kills and just two errors for a .556 hitting percentage to go along with five blocks.  Horrigan's 17 kills make her the 13th player in school-history to record 800+ kills in a career.

Sophomore Julie Blessing added 12 kills and two blocks and senior Eden Reichard totaled 13 kills and 22 digs.  Junior Emilie Baker had 29 digs, sophomore Amanda Wallitsch added 19 digs, and sophomore Brooke Horrigan had 55 assists in the win.

In the second match DSU fell 25-22, 25-20, 25-20.  Horrigan added eight more kills and two blocks and Blessing had seven kills and four blocks.  Wallitsch added 18 digs and Baker finished with 23 digs.  Reichard totaled 14 digs and B. Horrigan finished with 30 assists.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday evening when they host Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
