DSU Splits Two More Matches on Day Two of Buttermaker Tournament

Sophomore Julie Blessing earned All-Tournament honors over the weekend at the Buttermaker Tournament.

Allentown, PA (September 8, 2012) – The DeSales University volleyball team split its two matches once again on day two of the Buttermaker Volleyball Tournament at Muhlenberg College, falling to local rival Moravian College, 3-0, before topping Freedom Conference rival King's College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

In the first match, DSU struggled hitting the ball, producing more hitting errors (21) than kills (17) but somehow managed to stay close to Moravian, scoring 20+ points twice and losing 25-21, 25-18, 25-22.

Four different players had four kills including junior Macy Farrell, senior Eden Reichard, sophomore Julie Blessing, and senior Paige Horrigan.  Sophomore Amanda Wallitsch had 22 digs, Reichard had 17 digs and sophomore Nicole Morin had 10 digs.  Blessing added four blocks, while Reichard and P. Horrigan each had three blocks.

In the second match, the Bulldogs won the first two sets easily before dropping the third but rebounding for another easy fourth set win by scores of 25-9, 25-13, 21-25, 25-11.

P. Horrigan had 11 kills and just one error in 21 attempts, Blessing finished with nine kills and no errors in 24 attempts, and freshman Kait Anderson finished with eight kills and just two errors on 24 attempts.  Farrell also hit well with eight kills and just one error in 19 attempts.

Wallitsch added 28 digs, Reichard finished with 14 digs and six service aces, and sophomore Brooke Horrigan had 32 assists in the win.  Blessing was the lone Bulldog to earn All-Tournament Team honors.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to King's College for a rematch with the Lions, this time in Freedom Conference action for the conference tilt of the season for both teams beginning at 7:00 pm.
