Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 16, 2013) – Wilkes University rallied down two sets with a win in sets four and five to earn an upset win, 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 9-25, 25-20, 15-13) over the DeSales University volleyball team on Wednesday evening in Freedom Conference action.

The loss leaves the Bulldogs (14-11, 3-2 Freedom) in a tie for third place in the Freedom Conference standings with two matches remaining this season.  It is also the first loss to Wilkes since the 2004 season, snapping a nine-match win streak vs. the Lady Colonels.  DSU had not lost a set to Wilkes in the last eight career meetings dating back to the 2006 season.

The Bulldogs took the first set easily winning, 25-17, and were comfortably leading in the second set, 22-17, before WU closed the second set with eight straight points to earn a 25-22 win.  DSU dominated the third set winning 25-9, before Wilkes rallied winning sets four and five.  In the deciding fifth set, the match was tied at 11 and 13 before two straight points by the Lady Colonels closed out the match.

Freshman Lauren Hess was once again terrific with 25 kills and just three errors for a .431 hitting percentage.  Junior Chrissy Banos finished with 11 kills and hit .304, while seniors Emilie Baker and Madeline Svrcek each totaled eight kills.

Junior Amanda Wallitsch finished with a match-high 28 digs, graduate student Justine McNulty finished with 21 digs, and freshman Lisa Wallitsch added 43 assists and 17 digs in the loss.  Svrcek finished with 15 digs and freshman Arielle Nicholson had a team-high four blocks.

The Bulldogs don't return to action until next week when they host Misericordia University in what has become a very important Freedom Conference match-up next Tuesday, October 22nd beginning at 7:00 pm.
