Center Valley, PA (October 19, 2013) – Wilkes University scored early and added an insurance goal mid-way thru the second-half en route to a 2-0 win over the DeSales University women's soccer team in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The loss is the first one this season by more than two goals as each of the DSU's previous five losses were by just one goal as the Bulldogs fall to 6-6-3 overall and 0-3-1 in the Freedom Conference, while Wilkes improves to 8-4-3, 3-0-1 in the Freedom.

Wilkes got on the board just 5:38 into the game when Samantha Hockley scored unassisted taking control of a loose clear attempt in the box and firing a shot inside the left post for her seventh tally of the season.  The one goal lead stood into the half as the Colonels enjoyed a 6-1 advantage in shots.

WU got its insurance goal in the 68th minute when junior goalkeeper Michelle Churchman had the ball slip thru her hands and the Colonels' Dianna Connor was alertly following the play and beat Churchman to the recovery of the ball and knocked it in a wide open net for her fourth goal of the year.

DSU had three shots on the afternoon with its best chance to score coming with just over 40 seconds left when senior Brady Walsh out-hustled a Wilkes defender to a pass over the top, but her flick was just high of the goal.

Churchman finished with five saves on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Misericordia University for another Freedom Conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
