Center Valley, PA (October 22, 2013) – The DeSales University volleyball team hit .314 as a team and picked up 65 digs rolling past Misericordia University, 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-8), in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday evening clinching a playoff spot for the seventh consecutive year.
DSU had to fight back in the first set, overcoming a 16-13 deficit, outscoring the Cougars, 12-3 over the final 15 points for a 25-19 win. The Bulldogs cruised the rest of the way winning sets two and three with hitting percentages of .321 and .538.
Freshman
Lauren Hess again led the charge with 11 kills and a .409 hitting percentage. Senior
Emilie Baker also played well with six kills and a .600 hitting percentage, while junior
Chrissy Banos had six kills. Graduate student
Justine McNulty had a strong match with seven kills, 31 assists, 11 digs, and two blocks.
Defensively, junior
Amanda Wallitsch was in control with a match-high 20 digs and senior
Madeline Svrcek finished with 15 digs. Freshman
Lisa Wallitsch added nine digs and senior
Claire Depew played well in the back row with seven digs.
The Bulldogs return to action this weekend when they travel to the Juniata College Tournament beginning on Friday evening with a match vs. Carnegie Mellon University.
