St. David's, PA (October 5, 2013) – Freshman
Lauren Hess totaled 46 kills and junior
Amanda Wallitsch recorded 54 digs in two matches on Saturday leading the DeSales University volleyball team to a split of its two matches at the MAC Crossover hosted by Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.
DSU dropped the first match to #20 Stevenson University, 3-1, winning the third set 27-25, before dropping the fourth. The Bulldogs rallied in the second match of the day and after dropping the first set vs. Messiah College, 25-14, defeated the Falcons, 25-21, 25-19, 25-15 in the final three sets to earn the win, its 11th of the season.
Hess was outstanding all afternoon totaling 18 kills and hitting .250 vs. #20 Stevenson and totaled 28 kills and hitting .397 in the four-set win over Messiah. As good as Hess was on the offensive side of the court, A. Wallitsch was equally as strong on the defensive side totaling 28 digs vs. Stevenson and 26 vs. Messiah.
In the Stevenson match, senior
Emilie Baker added eight kills and hit .353, while freshman
Arielle Nicholson finished with six kills and five blocks in the loss. Freshman
Lisa Wallitsch totaled 17 assists and 14 digs and graduate student
Justine McNulty totaled 16 assists and 13 digs. Senior
Madeline Svrcek added 18 digs.
In the Messiah win, Baker added six kills, senior
Claire Depew had three blocks, Svrcek finished with 26 digs, L. Wallitsch had 16 digs, and McNulty finished with four kills, 32 assists, and 13 digs to lead DeSales.
DSU returns to action on Tuesday, October 8th when they travel to Manhattanville College for a Freedom Conference contest beginning at 7:00 pm.
