Bulldogs Top Local Rival for Second Time

Bethlehem, PA (September 10, 2013) – Freshman Lauren Hess pounded down 18 kills, junior Chrissy Banos had 12 kills, and senior Madeline Svrcek added eight kills and 18 digs leading the DeSales University volleyball team past its local rival Moravian College, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 25-9), for the second time in the last four days.

DSU took the first set 25-23, hitting .241.  The Bulldogs trailed 16-13 in the set before scoring the next seven points to lead 20-16.  The set was tied at 23 before a kill from Hess and graduate student Justine McNulty ended the match.  Moravian took the second set in a tight contest, 25-22, before the Bulldogs seized control winning sets three and four easily by scores of 25-15 and 25-9.

Hess finished with a match-high 18 kills and hit .361.  Banos added 12 kills and hit .318, Svrcek had eight kills and hit .304, freshman Arielle Nicholson added seven kills and hit .375, and senior Emilie Baker finished with six kills.  Both Baker and Nicholson each had two blocks and Banos added four service aces.

Svrcek led the way with 18 digs and junior Amanda Wallitsch finished with 15 digs.  McNulty had 24 assists and freshman Lisa Wallitsch played well with 23 assists and six digs.  Junior Nicole Morin had nine digs in the win.

The Bulldogs will return to action this weekend on Friday and Saturday when they travel to San Antonio, TX for the Trinity University Invitational.
