San Antonio, PA (September 13, 2013) – Freshman
Lauren Hess totaled 31 kills over two matches but the Bulldogs squandered a two-set lead vs. Berry College and fell in straight sets to Chapman University in the first two matches on Friday afternoon at the Trinity University Invitational.
DSU played terrific in the first two sets vs. Berry, hitting .200 and .256 as a team with 26 total kills and just 10 errors to take a 2-0 lead but Berry stormed back and the Bulldogs attack stumbled as BC took the final three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-10, and 15-11 to win, 3-2.
Hess led the charge with 13 kills and hit .242, while junior
Chrissy Banos and freshman
Arielle Nicholson each had six kills. Senior
Emilie Baker added 10 kills, while freshman
Lisa Wallitsch and junior
Amanda Wallitsch each had 17 digs. Graduate student
Justine McNulty finished with 29 assists and senior
Madeline Svrcek totaled seven kills and 15 digs.
In the second match of the day, Hess was terrific posting a match-high 19 kills and hitting .417 but Chapman hit .231 as a team and outlasted DeSales in three sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-22).
McNulty added 28 assists and 13 digs and Svrcek had five kills and 15 digs in the loss.
DSU returns to action tomorrow morning when they take on Whitworth and Mary Hardin-Baylor.
