Bulldogs Falter Late in 3-0 Loss to SUNY-New Paltz

New York, NY (September 20, 2013) – The DeSales University volleyball team faltered late in all three sets Friday evening losing late leads in each set to fall 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-23) to SUNY-New Paltz in the opening match of the NYU Invitational.

In the first set, DSU led the entire way and was in control leading 22-19 before losing six of the final seven points to fall 25-23.  In the second set, the Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 but were up 4-1, 9-2, 20-14, and 24-20, before New Paltz refused to go away winning the last six points for a 26-24 win.

The third set DeSales had to climb back from an early hole but did so tying the set at 17 and taking a 21-19 lead before New Paltz closed strong once again to win 25-23.

Freshman Lauren Hess led the charge with 13 kills and added three blocks.  Freshman Arielle Nicholson added six kills and also had three blocks and junior Amanda Wallitsch was tremendous in the back row, totaling 27 digs.

Senior Emilie Baker played well with seven kills and two blocks and graduate student Justine McNulty finished with 27 assists and 22 digs in the loss.

DSU returns to action tomorrow when take on Rochester Institute of Technology and UMASS-Boston at the NYU Invitational.
