Center Valley, PA (September 21, 2013) – Freshman Wes Frebel scored his third goal of the season, breaking a tie at one in the second-half and leading the DeSales University men's soccer team to its fourth straight win, 2-1, over Alvernia University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (4-4) were out-shot, 11-5, for the afternoon by the Crusaders (3-5) but made the most of its opportunities scoring twice and holding Alvernia to just one goal as junior Colin Sulpizio made three saves in between the pipes.

DSU took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when freshman Alex Peek drew a foul in the box awarding the Bulldogs a penalty kick that was knocked home by senior Matt Poorman, his third goal of the year and second PK tally of the season.

That lead stood into the half and into the 54th minute before Alvernia tied the contest at one when Alex Martyn took a long pass over the top and beat Sulpizio to the ball in the box, touching a shot past him and into the left corner of the net.  RJ Fisher had the assist on the play.

DSU needed just 5:11 to regain the lead as senior Scott Webb sent a long pass over the top to a streaking Frebel who took a few contested touches and slid a shot past the Alvernia keeper inside the right post for the eventual game-winner.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, September 24th when they host Muhlenberg College in a battle of local rivals beginning at 4:00 pm.
